Here are some pix from my trip to Beijing, China.
My friend Sharon and I visited Japan, Beijing, and Hong Kong for a couple of weeks. I'm so glad I got to see China. I wish I had taken digital pics of Hong Kong (it's beautiful!), but I only used a 35mm camera there; 2 rolls of film got trashed, and so far, I've been too lazy to scan the few pics I have.
CHINA IS
HOT!
It was a balmy 115
degrees Fahrenheit, when I visited one of the 80 Bajillion Temples in
Beijing. They say the path to enlightenment is long, but this seems just
plain goofy, I dunno' ...
The infamous
Tiananmen Square featuring the humungous picture of Chairman Mao. I think
the big Chinese characters on either side say something like "One day only
Art Sale! All Mao portraits 25-50% Off!" I took this pic
from the Great Wall. In contrast to the lowlands, here on top of the
mountains, the weather was a refreshing 103 degrees Fahrenheit. The view
was breathtaking and the climb was brutal. Here's another
spectacular view from the Great Wall.
Here's a view
of typical Chinese apartment buildings (as seen from our 5-star
hotel) in Beijing. There is a built-in, energy efficient cooling
system in every apartment (hundreds of broken windows).
The *modern*
air-conditioning systems of Beijing are only to be outdone by the sanitary
restroom facilities. The convenience of having to provide your own toilet
tissue, coupled with the privacy and comfort of the unit, also provides
the user with a pleasant aroma, whilst toning the calf and upper thigh
muscles.
